I must say when I read this review by The Midnight Blue Elephant (MBE) I found myself quietly nodding my head in agreeable. Not so long ago this year, in April, I was in Koh Lanta and the monsoon season came early. Personally I don’t mind the rain and it was still warm. The service at Crown Lanta was still great and well the beer was cold and the food fantastic. Yes, OK you got wet going to Reggae’s Bar but it was still 30 degrees and wonderfully balmy.
Water Ferry versus Minivan “ferry”
What caught me out as MBE mentions, is that during the monsoon season the ferry stops. So instead of a wonderful tropical sea breeze ferry ride you have to take a minivan. Which ins self is not bad but the trip has multiple stops to pick up passengers and it wouldn’t be Thailand if the minivan didn’t stop to deliver groceries to an isolated village and a couple of chickens in a cage appeared from somewhere as well!
Would I go back to Koh Lanta and Crown Lanta in the monsoon season – absolutely! The sound of the ocean at night as the storms come through – unforgettable. The service and the food at Crown Lanta – still perfect. Things to do? Limited only to your imagination.
